WHAT IS BIOCHAR?
Biochar is created when biomass material is heated with limited oxygen
at a high temperature. Charcoal is a familiar type of biochar.
Soil Enrichment
Biochar returns nutrients to the soil, increases water retention, and stimulates the activity of the soil ecosystem.
Carbon Reduction
Biochar is “carbon negative” – the carbon in biochar originates from atmospheric CO2 and leaves the global carbon cycle.
Water Treatment
Biochar can also be converted to activated carbon and used in filters to purify water.
Biochar contains
dozens
of nutrients
and natural soil enhancers, including
Nitrogen, Oxygen, Potassium, and Carbon
.
Each of these is crucial to a healthy soil
ecosystem and biochar can correct
deficiencies in the soil.
Biochar stimulates the activity of
bacteria
and
other microorganisms
in the soil by increasing the retention
of nutrients and water. This creates
a healthier and more balanced soil
ecosystem for
increased
yield
and
profit
.
